  • Beach clean up & Natureland trip.
It was on a sunny Friday afternoon in August that Rooms 5&6 went to Tahunanui Beach for a clean up. We found lots of rubbish, including a shopping trolley,a dead hedgehog and bird. Next we walked to Natureland for a study experience about some of NZ's native animals. We learnt about the Tuatara and how it hibernates through the winter months. Its heart rate is 1 beat per 10 minutes when in full hibernation! The Kea lives in the Alpine Ranges of the South Island only! Natureland expert Roger said that Natureland put many things in the Keas' cage to keep them occupied, like bikes that the Kea rip apart with their strong beaks. The class' had an enjoyable time.

  • Chickens in Room 2
They started with 12 eggs, then there were 6 now there is 2 more to go.  Already there are already 4 little chickens in a polystyrene box. There is a ginger, a yellow, a black and a mystery colour. The chicks talk alot and must get annoying. 6 eggs were duds so had to be removed from the incubator and thats how the story goes.                                                                YOU MUST COME TO SEE THEM!!!!

  • Te Awhina Marae Trip
Yesterday was the day we did our Marae trip to Te Awhina Marae in Motueka. It was very interesting. We got a tour of the marae. We were shown intricate carvings of ancestors.

The marae used to be a hospital ward, but was renovated.
There is an ancient church near the marae, and we were given a tour.
We learned a lot of things and we had a shared kai (meal).

It was a very interesting visit and we learned a lot about Maori history.

For reading this post, go and reward yourself by buying a pack of jaffa cakes.

  • 2nd week at school.
Wow, the last week of school! children are saying "Yay" and parents are groaning in hope that they can survive the holidays. School has been busying themselves with work, and just to say that everybody has  made it through the 2nd term apart from the horrendous accident at the start of June. All is well, Room 6 has a new arrival. Deborah has arrived from Malaysia to join NCA and to live here in lovely NZ. During term 2, Room 6 has been doing Spanish for language, Chemistry and Health for topic, Descriptive storys, book selling and reading storys for reading. Also for topic we have been watching BRYAN & BOBBY.

  • JAFFA CAKES & TE AWHINA MARAE
Have you ever had a jaffa cake? If you have then you would know that they taste delicious. If you haven't I highly recommend it, even though I am not sure if it is sold in New Zealand, though I have been told that it is sold at New World. If you have time, it would be worth it to go and buy a pack of jaffa cakes. :)

Recently at NCA, it has been announced that Room 6 will go to Te Awhina Marae in Motueka. It will be quite a long trip, but we will learn a lot. We are having a shared kai for morning tea and everyone is bringing something to share.
